Madrid Drawings: Puerta de Alcalá

€20

Madrid souvenir: Puerta de Alcalá illustration

One of the five old royal gates into Madrid. Charles III had the first triumphal arch built in Europeconstructed here, before the Arc de Triomphe in Paris or the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Víctor Manuel and Ana Belén wrote a song about it that has gone down in history and is part of the collective memory of generations of Madrilenians.

Because New York and Paris aren't the only ones with icons: we have ours here too:

The KIO Towers, the Puerta del Sol clock, the Tío Pepe sign, the Torrespaña Pirulí...

We may give them funny names, but they're ours, from right here.

From Madrid to Heaven.

White on black or black on white: you decide.
