The Tío Pepe sign is a legendary illuminated advertisement in Madrid.

It was removed from Puerta del Sol when the city council launched a crusade against signs in the center.

But a popular campaign "pardoned" it, and years later it returned in another location; it has presided over the square for more than 70 years.

We have great landmarks here: decorate your walls with the KIO Towers, the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, the Puerta del Sol clock, the Tío Pepe sign, the Pirulí... yes, we may have given them funny names, but they're ours, from right here.

Aren't we proud of what's ours?
